"How wonderful," Katrina said, turning the page. The book, explaining many aspects of fine cuisine, was featuring the ajiaco soup, a certain dish Trina was interested in exploring. She loved soups. Out of all the culinary recipes she had tried or just observed, soups were consistently delicious and reliable. Not only that, but they were aesthetically appealing, if done correctly, which Trina always did. The right herbs and spices meant for a superb bowl of ajiaco, and the atmokinetic knew that better than anyone. Well, perhaps excepting her mother. Marlene Millar was the perfect example of a housewife -- she cooked, cleaned, knitted, cleaned more, gardened, and did all of her own housework. She crafted and took care of children wonderfully. She taught her craft to Katrina, and the girl that could call upon lightning bolts was holding on to that bizarre interest in housework as a young woman. Marlene Millar didn't need lightning bolts, though. She owned six handguns.

Abnormality was something she dreaded. She wanted to grow up to be a good, moral woman with a husband and children and a great house. She wanted to be a lady. Trina, in the back of her minds, kept thinking of her strange gifts. They were fine, and all. . . she could make it rain, for goodness' sake. But she couldn't be normal. So, she tried her hardest to act it.

The library was a tranquil place, one she had only recently discovered as such. Not many students "hung out" here, and she found that there were some good books here, of many subjects. Reading a cookbook wouldn't appeal to many, but Katrina didn't mind. Fine dining was going to be one of her skills, whether she liked it or not. Instead of fantasizing about boys and what she was going to wear (which was of minor concern), she wondered what fine china she would have as an adult.

nyeh. D': I tried make six different posts and I still couldn't come up with a reply I liked. Damnit, oh well. ;w; stilldunlikeit

Nathaniel sat at a small table beside all the bookshelves, finishing reading over the last few pages of his book, having gone through over 500 of them. Normally, he wouldn't dare touch a book of this size, but there was one genre that simply enchanted him so. Nate was a sucker for fantasy novels. He loved how the fiction had the power to drag him out of his own reality and throw him into a new one completely. The only disappointing part was when the story came to the end. It was a nice escape, to say the least, and always left him with a large imagination; A mind that daydreamed at every free moment. He loved it.
The young man let out a silent sigh as he reached the back cover, closing the book gently and flipping it back over. He had been reading it over since yesterday and was a little reluctant to let the book go (for both of the reasons that he loved it, that and the librarian freaked him out a little), but he couldn't hold unto it forever.
He stretched and stood up, starting to head to the front counter to return the novel and passing by the instructional section, catching sight of Katrina. Honestly, he was a little surprised. He had only seen her twice before; once during the class that nearly beat them half to death, and the other on the first day of school, when he had particularly felt like an ass for a good portion of the evening. He hadn't talked to her since the later.

Nathan shrugged and held the book at his side. Well, a little detour never hurt anyone, right? He put on a small smile and walked over her, waiting to speak until he caught her attention, or at least until he thought he did. "you know, you never striked me as the type for culinary arts." He said, trying to keep quiet for the library, but wanting to be sure that she had heard him. "You know, messy food. Messy kitchen. Stains all over your clothes..."

The little detour annoyed Trina to no end.

Putting on her convincing -- yet insincere -- smile, Trina shut the cookbook. She looked at the boy, Nathan, stiffly, a certain warmness hiding her actual feelings. Trina didn't actually hate conversation, it was just that she was very much into her reading. And, Nathan wasn't exactly her favorite person in the world. She didn't know the empath, but she had a certain natural degree of perception . . she could tell he was someone she just wasn't going to like. He didn't have to know that, though.

She sat up straight, smoothing out her white skirt and her pink sweater that came down to her shoulders. She made a small 'mm' at his arrival, showing that she was prepared for any casual conversation that he had to offer. Her face was a neutral pleasantness, not denoting any contempt that she had for the boy, but not giving him a sense of security either.

She replied to him in the same tone of voice that he used, quiet enough as to not be scolded by the librarian, yet just the right octave for him to hear her. She said, rather coolly, "I can assure you, Nathaniel, that any kitchen I enter will not be messy. And certainly not the food." She gave him a smile to show that she was light-hearted as she said it, though Trina was dead serious. "And stains? Hah, you obviously don't know me very well."
