A Normal Day In the Life Of Mel (Me and Pine-ay)

Happy enjoyed the fact that she had smiled back. The headphone wire (thing o3o) tugged at the side of his head, and he wondered if he should just stay tilted like he was sitting now. Just as he was going to move a bit closer, he felt something tap his shoulder. He felt his head finally go upright, but he noticed that their shoulders were touching. He didn't comment, just listened to the loud music exploding in his right ear. Slowly, as he closed his eyes, he let his head fall. Which just so happened to be on Melody's shoulder.

Melody let out a small, surprised gasp whenever his head made contact with her shoulder, but after a moment, she just smiled awkwardly and leaned back herself. She didn't close her eyes out of fear someone would walk by, but she relaxed some. Soon the song ended, and the next one began, another one that Mel assumed Happy knew.

Happiness surged through him as he listened. And as the next one turned on, it was unfamiliar, but he didn't mind. It still seemed good. After a few moments, he felt himself leaning on her arm, and the sound in his ear became so powerful that he thought that his ear would bleed. Had he slid down drowsily and not known it? He blinked his eyes open, but realized that he wasn't who he was before. Shaking the earbud out of his ear, he pawed at his ear and looked up at Melody. "Meeaaau?" He jumped, obviously shocked at his high-pitched voice. He looked at himself. Black fur. Black paws. Black... tail. One ear fell forward. His floppy ear. As always. Though, he never knew he could transform into a.... "Oh, God! I'm a cat!"

Mel let out a surprise squeak as she stared down at the black kitty. "Wh-how?" She asked in confusion. "Is this your power?" She wondered quietly, reaching out to pet the cat on the cheek. "Oh Happy, you're adorable!" Melody murmured adoringly.

Happy glared at the ground as she caressed his cheek. "No it's not!" he complained, twitching his whiskers as she pet them. "It's useless, nya!" He covered his mouth. No, please, no. I did NOT just say nya... After a couple heartbeats of staring awkwardly at the space in front of him, he shakily brought his paws down and spoke. "Yeah, me and my sister both have the same power," he breathed. "And if you were wondering, her name's Sarah." He looked at her. "What's your power, Melody? It has got to be better than mine, nya."

Melody put her hand in her lap and awkwardly and pulled on her sleeve. "Not really. I can't turn into a cat or anything. I can make people fall asleep with the sound of my singing voice." She explained. Mel use to think her power was cool, but ever since she made it here, she started to think that it wasn't all that great. It wasn't like she could kill someone that way. Maybe she could knock them out and run away, but she didn't know how to single out someone and use it on them.

Happy seemed to think otherwise. "That's so cool," he purred. "Your voice must be angelic when you sing or something... I mean, in order to make people fall asleep, nya." He thought about how she could have defeated a really big enemy just by opening her mouth and singing. Then, she could finish them off easily. "Wooow!" he meowed, stretching out his long limbs. "So is that why you like music a lot, too?" He could hear the music still blaring fro, the earphone, and it was so loud to his sensitive cat ears that it sounded as if he still had them in. Happy swished his tail and watched her with massive cat eyes. "Oh-- and I forgot to thank you," he said, motioning with a paw to the iPod. "It made me feel better."

Melody laughed at the compliment on her voice. "I suppose, and yeah, that's why I like music so much. It's literally a part of me and all..." She looked at the iPod and smiled softly. "No problem. I like sharing music with others. It makes me feel good myself." After a short, awkward silence, she spoke again. "So.. When will you turn back?" She asked, a little warily.

Happy just smiled. "Well, that's good," he said. The silence became awkward, and, thankfully, Melody asked a question. "Umm... I guess it... um... depends. I really don't know. I've been trying to find out," he said, hunching over with a glum look. "But it doesn't take longer than an hour," he assured. "I don't mind turning into animals. It's really cool, but at the same time really pathetic."

Melody tilted her head. "I don't think you look pathetic. Like I said, you are adorable!" Then she rethought that. Adorable could be mistaken as pathetic. "Wait no.. You are a fierce creature that could kill someone in one try!" She replied with a smile.

"I'm not--!" He stopped and listened. "Yeah, that's more like it," he mused, swishing his new cat tail. Suddenly, Happy was hidden in a cloud of dust. A shrill shriek came from the dust cloud. Then, there was Happy scrambling to get his pants back on.

Nathan had been in his own little world, one again reading a fantasy novel to sooth his literature craving. He was in the middle of the book when a few isles down he heard a sharp and sudden screech. It made him flinch, breaking out of his imagination. 'What the hell was that?' Nate frowned. It sounded like a hoarse cat.

The young man stood up and closed his book sighing, regretfully curious as to who the hell let a cat in the building. He walked down the isle and reached around the corner, closing his eyes for a moment before opening them to the source.

It... shocked him to say the least, and something happened to him that rarely occurred; he felt a sudden surge of emotions, unable to put a stop to any of them, and there were so many he wasn't sure what to feel.

Pure surprise. Then amazement. Then disgust. Then complete and utter confusing. And finally, anger.

His mind assumed the worst.

A fierce look suddenly appeared on his face as he loomed over Happy, picking him up by the arms. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO HER?!?"

Some retard in the back of the library shushed him.

Happy saw him, unblinking. "U- Uuuhh!!" He cowered, shaking a bit. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. There was obviously something between this guy and Melody. And he knew why he was so pissed. Happy could feel the rage from him through the ground as he thundered towards him. He braced himself, arms covering his face.

"Neeuugh!! Don't--!" He felt himself being jerked to his feet, then lifted high into the air. He clenched his eyes tightly as the guy's loud voice roared through his ears. "NO! I--!" Happy couldn't stop himself from wriggling in his grasp, giving a small whine of fright. "I wasn't! I wasn't! I wasn't! I wasn't! I wasn't!" The same two words spilled from his mouth helplessly. "Don't hurt me!" he pleaded.

And his belt dangled from his sagging pants.

Melody's eyes widened as Happy turned back, and she let out a shrill squeak of surprise that sounded somewhat like a mouse. She spun around, her hands covering her face for she didn't want to see anymore. Thank God for the creation of underwear! D;
And then a fuming Nate wandered up, his voice causing her to spin back around, just in time to see Happy being grabbed by a seriously pissed Nate.
She felt like crying, she seriously did. Mel felt bad for causing all this, because deep down she knew it was her fault that Nate was about to beat the living shit out of a poor like Happy.
"STOP!" Melody yelled at Nate, pushing him back with little force, trying to get between the two. "Nate, I can explain! He didn't do anything!" She cried, her eyes shut tight.

You know, the belt jangling only made it over 9000x worse. :'D

Nathan gritted his teeth, "You little shit!" He shook his head in momentarily disbelief, "I'm going to - to - I'm going to do some SERIOUSLY BAD THINGS TO YOU, you sonnof agonaf aetinaenaetn - " And you couldn't even bothered to get a room? I think it's safe to say his vocabulary had decided to leave him since he was more focus on having Happy drawn and quartered.

He had released his grip on Happy and took a few steps back, honestly wanting to push her away and continue to wrangle him; He didn't, though, because he had seen the distressed look on Melody's face as well as her emotion. Nate let out a harsh groan through his teeth and at least tried to take satisfaction that he could catch on to Happy's feeling scared shitless.

"Explain what? What the hell is this?!" he barked.

It was only then did Sarah happen to walk into the library in order to study for her classes when she heard the commotion in one of the isles. Rolling her eyes, she chose to ignore the ruckus until she heard a small hint of Happy's voice. What did he do now?! she thought as she dropped her belongings and rushed through the isles until she found an enraged Nate toeering over Happy who was only... in his underwear? Not even seeing the reason as to why Nate was furious, which would be Melody, she gasped at the sight. "What are you doing?!" She cried.

Happy gave another shriek, holding back upcoming tears. "Noooo!" he distressed, finally having tears fall down his face. He feared the worst, and he clenched his teeth, holding back more tears. He braced himself for a large punch in the face. "Don't--! P- Please, no!" he cried before finally his face was moist with tears.

He heard Melody trying to help him; trying to reason with this... this... brute! Hopefully it worked. Hopefully this nightmare would end! When he opened his eyes, he caught sight of his sister, and relief and embarrassment flooded over him. Sarah! Please help me! Beat this guy up! he longed to stay, but the words were caught in his throat.

"L- Let me down! Let me--!" His wish was granted. He felt the furious grip around his arms release. His fears weren't over yet! His back slammed against the ground, and he groaned with pain, curling up into a tight ball, sobbing softly. He heard angry voices, but they were drowned out by his thoughts.

I deserve this.

Over and over.

Melody looked up at Sarah and sniffled. Melody herself wanted to break down crying with Happy, but who else would explain that they weren't doing it in the library? "Nate," She began in a tight voice, trying to stay calm, which was failing horribly. "Happy is a shapeshifter. He turned into a cat, and you just happened to come by whenever he turned back. It isn't what it looks like, I swear. So can you not try and beat him up?" She explained slowly and somewhat condescendingly. Glancing at Sarah, she wanted to facepalm.
Great, now a crowd was forming. She thought helplessly, unaware of who the girl was.

Nathan ran his hand through his hair, his head down, yet he still glared at Happy. "He had to unbuckle his belt to turn into a cat?" He challenged, but shook his head. "Just - goddamnit -." He still wanted to flip Happy like a table to high-Heaven.

No. There was no way he was just going to let this go. Not yet. He glanced aside at the new girl, hearing her cry. "Sarah?" He called to his roommate. What was she doing here?

Trying to keep himself from being a murderer, he crossed his arms together and leaned back against the book case, closing his eyes; He tried to use his power to put down his anger. It wasn't working very well.

Sarah glared at Nate before taking a quick glance at Melody before her eyes focused on Happy. "What is going on?" She asked him, more concerned for his health than mad at him after seeing him nearly scared out of his skin from Nate. "Why is Nate so mad?"

Happy couldn't move! He couldn't budge! Though, he heard the voice of his sister, making him begin to uncoil. Though, he caught sight of Nate and immediately scrunched himself back up in the corner, more tears streaming down his face.

I deserve this.

Happy could barely get words to come out of his mouth. "H- He...!" Happy began coughing and sputtering from his fear. His pants were still half-off, but he didn't care anymore. It didn't matter. Well, at least not anymore. He was hated. Unforgiven. All because of his damn power!

I deserve this.

Words were choked on, and other words just tripped over one another, being in a big jumble of nonsense. "...nd..! Mel- and then...! C- Cat-- and..." He dug his fingers into his scalp, using his stomach to muffle the sound of his crying.

I deserve this.

He wished he was back home. Under his bed. Alone. By himself while his sister played outside and occasionally came in to give the call to eat. Most of the time he came. The rest of the time he stayed underneath his bed. It was quiet. Peaceful. Not a place where people think you're having sex with someone you were just listening to music with.

I deserve this.

Alright, forget this.
She turned her attention from Nate and Sarah to a broken and shattered kitty boy. Mel, who was still sitting on the ground, crawled over to Happy. She sat in front of him and placed her hands in her lap, not daring to touch him, out of fear he'd completely snap.
"Hey.. Hey Happy... It's okay.. Calm down." She cooed gently, before thinking for a moment. Then she scooted next to him, like how they sat early. She leaned towards his ear, and quietly sang the chorus of the first song they had listened to in his ear, just loud enough to effect him and not Nate or Sarah.

Nathaniel had peaked away from his concentration, flicking one eye open and seeing Melody get down and close to Happy. In an anime-ish way, you could picture him shutting his eyes at once and his eyebrow twitching in pure irritation, and a hint of jealousy as well. But he said nothing and turned away from the others, looking away from the group; Nate pinched his temples and tried to continue to calm the fuck down.

Sarah watched quietly as Meloday sang. She had no idea what this strange girl was doing, but as long as it helped calm her brother down, she was all up for it, especially since he seemed to be in some kind of panic attack. Concern showed in every feature of her face for Happy as she let Melody do her work.

Happy was lost in a screaming vortex of guilt and horror. He continued to bring himself down, still crying.

I deserve this.

That was when a soft voice hushed his thoughts. His eyes jerked open immediately. What was she doing? He tensed, hands shaking. He still didn't budge. Though, as she spoke, those words seemed to flow together like a... a song.

I deserve... ....

The song was awfully familiar. He listened, remembering the same words, the tone. His cheeks were still moist with tears, but they had ceased. Then he felt as if he really were listening to the same song.

I...

He felt groggy, his eyes heavy. He relaxed his tense muscles. The song beckoned him into an endless slumber, welcoming him to fall asleep to the music. Happy gave a few shaky breaths as he listened intently. His arm that wrapped him around in a ball fell limply and he slowly began to uncurl-- like a roly poly --until he faded away from consciousness.

...

And he was still in his underwear.
