why is this so hard!?

Violet sat on her bed staring at one of her shoes that was sitting in front of her. Ok, I can do this, she reassured herself. She reached out with one hand and grabbed the shoe. "Please, please, please, please," she breathed as she closed her eyes. After a few moments, she opened her eyes and looked down to see that the shoe was still it's normal size and it hadn't shrunk at all.

JAcob walked into the dorm "Hiya Violet, whats up?"

"Um, well, I'm trying to shrink my shoe," she murmured quietly.

"Thats neat" he said

"I accidentally shrunk a branch earlier, but I haven't been able to shrink anything since," Violet explained, looking down at her the she was trying to shrink.
