The tooth hurts, don't it?

It was lunchtime, and Happy sat at the far corner of the Cafeteria, just settling today's lunch with a simple apple. Nothing else, just... an apple. He gazed into the bright red fruit. Happy was sort of looking forward to it. His mouth opened, agape, and he bit into the apple. It was so delicious; so--

"AA-- AOOUUUWWWCCCHH!"

He held the side of his mouth, dropping the apple, which rolled off the table. The inside of Happy's mouth throbbed as he held it, and he groaned with pain. Then he set his head on the table to reduce the pain a bit and tears began rolling.

Looking down as a apple hit her foot, Melody frowned and picked it up. She was leaving the Cafeteria, but once she noticed Happy, she smiled. She now considered him as a friend, and honestly liked messing with him- well, just a little.

"Problems?" She asked sincerely, tilting her head and laying the apple down on the table as she sat across from the shape-shifter. "I think you dropped this..." She began, but confused, she stopped talking.

Happy couldn't hear her over the sound of his pain. He fondled with his cheek for a bit, wincing. He flinched as the same apple sat itself down next to him. Was it alve!?! Was that why when he bit it that he felt so sore!? Happy looked behind him to see a familiar face. He felt relieved that the apple wasn't haunted, but gee did his mouth hurt.

"I-- I... Owww..." He wiped his eyes as he spoke, though, unable to wipe the pain away with it. "M- My mouth! It... *sniffle* ...it hurts a lot," he explained, not letting his hand leave his jaw for one second. It was painful to talk, so he just continued crying softly, trying desperately to soothe his sore mouth.

Melody frowned, tilting her head more to the side. "What did you do?" She asked, before looking down at the apple and the bite in it... and the blood. "Erm.. You know what? Just don't talk. Did you lose a tooth, or did you just hurt it? Just nod for me, kay?" She told him, sliding beside him, slipping into super-nurse mode as she gently touched his hand to pull it away from his face. She really hoped he didn't notice the blood, with how squeamish he was...

Happy opened his mouth to speak shakily. "Mmnnn... I- I was--!" he began, but was interrupted by her. He was glad she was trying to help him, but... He listened, and gave a subtle nod. He held up two fingers, indicating that her second choice was correct. Even though she tried to remove his hand from his face, he didn't allow it, keeping his hand locked firmly in place. "N- No--! I- I'm okay, really... Aoouuww.." Happy wouldn't let her-- no! He remembered his first time at the dentist.

"Wow! You're so good! You didn't flinch or anything. Now, let me just take one more peek at your pearly whites shall we?" the dentist said, leaning towards Happy, examining his mouth closely. "Oh.. Er... My, my, I'd almost forgotten about that cavity. Oh, dear...." He turned away and went to his utensils. "Mishter Dentisht Man, uh, um... Is this cavity thingy gonna hurt?" the younger Happy asked, shifting nervously. "Don't worry. I promise, it won't hurt a bit." He turned on a heel, facing him, a drill whirring, screaming the sound of intense pain. Happy was already darting for the door crying! "No!! NOO! Don't hurt me!!" His frail hands scrabbled at the door. The dentists drill towered closer and closer...

Happy jumped, afraid from his flashback. "I think I- I'm fine now!!" he said rather quickly, jerking himself to stand. He turned to walk away, holding back more tears.

Melody frowned, but pulled away. "At least let me get you some ice- I'm a nurse, after all." She demanded, standing up her self and shoving Happy back down on the shoulder. "Stay here. Then I want a look at it. To see if you're really fine." She said with a roll of the eye as she looked away. Melody walked up to one of the lunch ladies.
They talked a moment, and then Mel came back with a cup of ice in hand, along with napkins for a makeshift icepack.

"Y- Yes, but!!" Happy felt himself being sat back down, and he frowned. He stared down, clutching his jaw painfully. Rolling his fingers to massage the sore spot on his face, he watched her walk back. What kind of ice pack was that? Nonetheless, he scooted away. "Will it h- hurt!?" he asked, cringing.

Melody gave him a gentle smile, shaking her head. She handed him the ice wrapped in a napkin. "Hold that to your face. It'll make it feel better." She told him, looking up at his cheek. She paused, before giving him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry Happy. I promise it won't hurt a bit." She whispered. Hm, deja vu, anyone?

Happy gingerly took the ice-napkin burrito looking thing and held it against his cheek. It was extremely freezing against his face. "Wh-- it..." He stared at her for a long, long time before reluctantly opening his mouth.

Melody nodded, before standing and looking down on Happy. Damn, if only she had a light. Her phone would work, if she had it, or her iPod, but she couldn't take it out here. The light was just enough to make out an ugly colored tooth in the back... "Hey Happy? I think you have a cavity." She informed him calmly, taking one more look before sitting back down.

Happy waited frightenedly. He felt a little awkward when people passed by, giving confused glances. He was relieved when she pulled away from his face, and he could put the ice pack firmly on his cheek. When he heard the word 'cavity', the boy gave a shriek, and bowled over the table to the other side and scrambled underneath the next table. Happy's tears began waterfalling down his face. "You can't make me!!" he hissed, pressing the ice pack painfully hard to his face.

Melody's eyes widened in shock. "Ha- Happy?" She squeaked as he crawled away. The girl merely stood there for a moment, until she let out a sigh and walked over to the next table. She crouched down and looked under the table, frowning. "Listen Bunny Boy, I wasn't gonna make you do anything. What's so bad about seeing a dentist every now in then, anyway? You'll be fine. It'll be better in the end. How does your tooth feel? It hurts a lot, doesn't it? Well, it won't get better if you don't see someone." She reasoned, taking a seat on the dirty floor and crossing her arms limply over her legs as she looked at him.

Happy flinched a her, shooing her away with a hand and he cried. "I wanna get better! I do, but-- oww!! --I don't like the scary..." He covered his face. "...swirly drill thing!" Happy snapped at her when she got close. No, really. He bit the air in front of her, trying to shoo her back, and cried out with pain. He shoved his face in his legs. "I don't wanna see anyone!" he complained.
