| Melody nodded slowly against his shoulder. "Eh. Kinda. She looks more like my mom than I do." She replied in disgust. Or so Melody thought. In reality, she looked almost identical to her mother- they both had long blonde hair, both with the brown lowlights Melody to such treasure in. She had gotten her crimson eyes from her mother, as well as her attitude and temper. It was kind of sad, actually. The two were so much alike, and yet the hated the other so much. It was almost funny- Melody hated her mother's eyes, but loved her own, and visa versa. (or however you spell it.) "She didn't like me. She never did. And he was never home in the first place. I only had her and Harmony. And it truthfully, sucked." She rambled on, not even noticing the tears filling her eyes as she spoke. Her, as in her mother, and him being her father. But she didn't want to say that. The hallway was empty now, with no one passing by for the time being. | |

| Nate frowned, picking up the obvious scorn in the words she spoke and continued to sit quietly. He didn't want to ask to many questions, instead picking up the puzzle pieces and fitting them together himself. "Hey, it's okay." He soothed, reaching his hand down and grabbing hers, if only for a little bit of comfort. Nathan easily figured out who she meant to imply, it confused him though. "Why?" The boy asked lightly, wondering if she'd even hear him, and regretting it when he saw tears rim the edge of her crimson eyes. He just squeezed her hand a little tighter and tried his best to keep calm for her. Really, what could it possibly be about her mom that she didn't like when he couldn't find hardly a few things about her not to love? Harmony seemed to be rather fond of her sister as far as siblings went, at least from what he saw. | |

| Melody toke a shaky breath and turned to bury her face in his shoulder. Whenever she felt his hand in her own, she sighed, looking up. "She wanted to be normal- she prayed that I would be normal, and when I wasn't... She couldn't deal with it. I had my grandmother and my aunt there- they understood me. But it still hurt... Shouldn't a mother love her child? And whenever Harmony came along, she was so excited... I didn't know... She was so gentle and kind, and... I was envious." She explained, biting her lip and looking away, her voice dazed. "She treated Harmony like a princess, and I did everything wrong. I was her little screw up, the monster, you know?" She asked rhetorically, her voice cracking a little. "I was so happy to come here- to escape the past for good, that whenever I saw Harm today... It all came running back. And I can't out run my past." She finished, a frown on her face as she realized that. She thought back to that numb feeling in the infirmary that one time. That was Melody running. But now... Emotion, and a lot of it, hit her all at once. | |

| Nathaniel held back a sigh as she tried to dig her face in, passively running his thumb across the back of her hand. To say the least, he was shocked at what she had to say? Normal? Why on earth would his mother yearn so much for normality? Didn't this gift run in the family? As she went on, he was honestly speechless, what was he supposed to say? What careful words could he choose to soothe her, if he could at all. "It's grossly unfair to you. They're supposed to love their child no matter what..." He assured her. No family was supposed to be like this, not an emotional hell for people like Melody, he hoped she understood that. "You're not a monster. You're the most amazing girl..." Nathan gave up, feeling there was nothing he could really say. He felt her heart practically breaking and it was near killing him. He loosened his hand from hers, only to wrap his entire arm around her body, drawing her closer for comfort. "It's alright." he muttered, "You don't have to run..." How long did she think that she could? Beata hardly lasted a year for each student and she was only fifteen. She'd have to go home sooner or later. Did she plan spending her entire time here in blissful denial? | |

| Yeaaaaah! Let's go deniaaaal!
She had it all figured out. Go to this school in blissful ignorance for a year, and when she had to go home, spend most of her time with friends. What little time at home in her room, and any time with her sister or mother in a sullen retreat. Then she'd take up extra classes at the high school and focus on school work until she got out. She'd fine the farthest away college and go there, never to see them again! It would be perfect. Each comforting response he gave her made Melody realize she was simply begging for comfort- something she hated to do. Soon after, she pulled away and shook her head. "I know, I know. I'm sorry. I shouldn't bother you with my family drama. I doubt you want to hear it." She said, looking away and at her hands. | |

| He tried not to take it personally as she drew away, rubbing the back of his neck instead, "It's fine..." he muttered, glancing back at her as she focused her attention elsewhere. It was bothering Nate that she still didn't seem to just let him try and help her, but he couldn't force Melody to trust him. Maybe he should have just not said anything at all. He glanced for a few moments at each end of the hallways, making sure there was still no one coming their way anytime soon. "If you want to talk, I don't mind listening." The young man said, his gaze wavering back to her. "It's not healthy just keeping all these things inside. Really, Mel, I don't." He decided to just kinda shut up after that. | |
